Controller

Own accounting, billing, payroll, and financial reporting as the first dedicated finance hire at a fast-growing healthcare AI company.

ABOUT THE CONTROLLER ROLE AT GENHEALTH

GenHealth.ai is transforming the way healthcare works with AI agents that run real administrative work inside live healthcare operations. We're venture-backed, growing quickly, and our finance function is currently run by the Head of Sales & Operations alongside an outsourced accounting partner. It works, but it's time for a real owner.

As Controller, you'll take over the whole stack: monthly close, revenue recognition, invoicing and collections, payroll and commissions, treasury, tax coordination, and investor reporting. This is a hands-on role. You'll work in Stripe, Mercury, Rippling, and Carta, and you'll inherit (and improve) a set of automated finance pipelines built with AI tools. You'll be the person leadership and investors trust for the numbers.

Responsibilities

Accounting & Close

- Own the monthly close with our outsourced accounting partner: close packages, statement review, and month-close Q&A
- Own accrual revenue recognition against customer contracts, including the contract-based revenue waterfall that drives our reporting
- Drive chart-of-accounts and accounting-policy decisions (COGS vs. R&D allocation, cash vs. accrual questions) and keep us GAAP-ready for audits and diligence

Billing, AR & Collections

- Own invoicing in Stripe end to end: recurring subscriptions, usage-based and ramping contracts, credits, and corrections
- Run collections: AR aging, dunning outreach, payment plans, and autopay setup, with a target of driving DSO down
- Operate and improve our automated AR reporting pipeline (bank data + Stripe + contract schedules)

Payroll, Commissions & Equity Administration

- Run payroll through Rippling (PEO), including hourly employees, multi-state tax setup, and benefits reconciliation
- Administer sales compensation: commission calculations, draws, bonuses, and quarterly true-ups
- Manage equity administration in Carta: option grants, exercises, 409A coordination, and cap-table hygiene

Treasury, AP & Spend

- Manage cash across bank accounts: transfers, vendor payments, and wires
- Own corporate cards and reimbursements, expense policy, and vendor renewals
- Track spend against budget and flag variances early

Reporting, Tax & Compliance

- Produce monthly investor reporting and the finance sections of board materials: P&L, burn, runway, and key metrics
- Maintain the financial model with the leadership team: hiring plan, forecasts, and scenario analysis
- Coordinate federal and state returns, sales tax, 1099s, and R&D credits through our accounting partner
- Keep the data room and diligence materials current

What success looks like (first 90 days)

- The monthly close runs on schedule without the Head of Sales & Operations in the loop
- Invoicing is accurate and on time, AR is current, and collections have a clear cadence
- Payroll and commissions run without errors or escalations
- Leadership and investors get trustworthy numbers on a predictable schedule

Requirements

- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including ownership of a close
- Startup experience strongly preferred: controller, assistant controller, or senior accountant at a high-growth company
- Strong command of accrual accounting and SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Hands-on operator: you do the work yourself rather than managing a team that does it
- Experience with Stripe billing or similar subscription/invoicing platforms
- Meticulous with detail and deadlines; payroll, tax filings, and investor reporting can't slip
- Comfortable using AI tools daily; several of our finance workflows run on automated pipelines you'll operate and extend
- High discretion with compensation, banking, and investor information

Nice to Have

- CPA or public accounting background
- Experience working with outsourced accounting firms (Kruze, Pilot, or similar)
- Familiarity with Rippling, Mercury, Brex/Ramp, or Carta
- Prior experience with AI tools like Claude Code, or interest in building finance automations
- Healthcare or B2B SaaS billing experience
- Fundraise diligence or audit-readiness experience

Compensation & Benefits

- Salary Range: $125,000 – $175,000 (based on experience)

- Equity: Stock options

- Benefits:

- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Unlimited vacation policy
- Remote-first work environment
- Direct collaboration with the leadership team
- Ownership of the entire finance function at a fast-growing AI company
At GenHealth, we believe in building a diverse and inclusive team. We're passionate about transforming healthcare through AI and making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes worldwide.
